Carry anything or nothing. This bag gives me peace of mind in that backcountry. It is comfortable with nothing but a shovel and probe for small trips or fully loaded for longer journeys. Plenty of cinch straps to keep the bag tight and compressed. Plenty of options to carry poles/skis/helmet externally. Easy to add water bladder to stay hydrated. I would recommend this to anyone doing short to med
